Fire Safety Is No Accident!

The mission of this website is to provide background information to both public and private sector organizations regarding how to reduce the frequency and severity of fires during construction. This site identifies many best management practices that were collected during a literature search. It places emphasis on personal accountability of all stakeholders in the process. The intent of this website is to provide generic guidelines as to how to use model codes and standards to reduce fire loss. This site recognizes that there are significant differences in the roles of various organizations in preventing fire. This website also focuses on those levels that can create a fire free atmosphere at a specific construction site. This website will not address the use of model codes and standards once a building has received a certificate of occupancy.

This website was developed as a cooperative effort of the American Wood Council, an industry based Stakeholders Group and Fireforceone. The original research was based on search for management practices that could be utilized to “Reduce Fires in Buildings Under Construction”. The primary target audiences are those involved in the construction of large-area, multi-family housing.

The American Wood Council is a National Trade Association for traditional and engineered wood products, representing over 75 percent of the industry. AWC’s engineers, technologists, scientists, and building code experts developed state-of-the-art engineering data, technology, and standards on structural wood products used by design professionals, building officials, and wood products manufacturers to assure the safe and efficient design in use of wood structural components.

The construction industry is a partner in achieving fire safe construction. Many organizations have joined forces to assure that best management practices are employed on work sites to prevent the ignition and spread of fire. This website is directed towards those parties who have responsibility for conducting fire prevention activities on work sites.

The goal of this website is to reduce the frequency and severity of fires in buildings under construction. Its mission is to provide the building industry with information about best management practices that promote safety and reduce the number of catastrophic fires.
